-We are looking for a dynamic vocalist who is a humble and considerate person,who has a strong work ethic, and the ability to be a team player.

-The audition will be in two parts; first one on one with judges only and then with other singers to test the perfect blend.

-East Coast residency preferred

-Must be 18 years old or older
-Please bring a headshot, does not need to be a professional headshot.

Chaka Khan is one of my most favorite singer-songwriters. She influenced me tremendously throughout my childhood, and still today. I was so proud to receive my first Soul Train Award in 2009 and that same evening, she was being given a Lifetime Achievement Award. When I see her ,she always so nice to me and ever since I first started my career as lead singer for the British Jazz group,INCOGNITO, the band leader Bluey has dreamed of her singing with the band.. He got his wish and I got mine when Tony Maiden asked me to sing with Rufus in Japan at the Blue Note!! How deep is that!! Dreams DO come true!

Another Magical Moment?? Not quite,but ALMOST!!

Oh well...I guess it's okay to tell you now. I was put forward to sing a new song at The Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Friday,and the closing ceremonies of the World Cup on Sunday in South Africa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BUT IT DID NOT
WORK OUT. I have been on an emotional rollercoaster since 1pm Friday,when I got the call from New York. The few people who went against the ones who really wanted me to do it,wanted a "BIG INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR". I have prayed,cried,had a half a nervous breakdown,prayed some more.I swallowed my pride through this whole process. But the best part is to know that I was in the running with Celine Dion,Stevie Wonder,Seal,Eric Clapton and Robin Gibb..:)THAT's the COOLEST.

I just pulled out today after waiting all of that time,sending in a demo,driving my family crazy,etc. I tried,there were people in New York and London pulling for me,but I guess God said no again this time. I'm handling the disappointment alot better this time,and I really was not looking forward to postponing my show in Richmond on Friday. They undecided people had me hanging on a string it seemed and my mom laid down the law and told me to stop going through this and sing for the people who know and love me.

I understand they are looking for someone with more name recognition,but I wish they would have given me a CHANCE to show the world what I can do. I really believed this was my turn. Oh well..I'm going for a walk.. LOVE YOU. Smooches.

I was just informed that my version of "When I Fall in Love"(from A Woman in Love),is being featured in Brazil's most popular new soap opera(Telenovela), "PASSIONE"! The song will also be added to a soundtrack of the show!! YAY!!!! The UNIVERSE is WORKING hard!! I see a trip to Brazil in my future!!!

Magical Moments!

Last night,May 29,2010,another one of those magical career moments happened in my life.
I went to Jacksonville Florida to sing at the Jazz fest with Jason Miles' Grover Washington Jr. tribute,and after I sang my first song, I was walking back to the dressing room /trailer,and I hear someone call my name and when I turn around it was Chris Botti. He walks up to me and says "Hi,I'm Chris Botti and I was like "I know who you are!!"and I screamed inside "OMG"!! And he askes me if I could do him a favor and fill in for his singer Nicki Richards (again OMG!) because her flight wont get to Jacksonville on time, and It's only a couple of songs with his band and the orchestra! ORCHESTRA????!!!!..So now my heart is racing and I'm like what are the songs?? And he tells me The Look of Love and The Very Thought of You. I only had about 3 hours to learn his arrangements and I still wasn't finished Jason's show,plus I figured Nicki would make it because this can't be happening..OMG I am trippin..so Chris gives me his tour manager's information and takes mine and now my mind is on hyperdrive!! I had just asked GOD for another magical moment in my life because I was getting really tired and BAM!
Here it is!! So I finish up Jason's show which was real cool,and then I went to sign CD's and all the time Im thinking "is this real??" Should I get excited? I didn't say anything until I really new it was happening when I got back to my room and I started practicing the songs..by this time I had one hour to learn the arrangements and get dressed..thank goodness Jason told us to dress casual during his gig because I had a dress that I had taken out of my suitcase several times..(something told me to put it in anyway)....so I had my iphone listening and learning,went to the gig and me Chris and guitarist Mark Whitfield (he was the featured guitarist on Bluey's Inner Shade years ago)went over the music a little in the trailer..
About 45 minutes into the show,(the orchestra was beautiful),Chris' tour manager sent me a text saying he was coming to get me in 5 minutes!
That's when my knees started shaking,my heart was pounding and I really started to sweat..I walked up on stage and after one song I heard Chris tell the story of how we had met and he was telling the audience that I didnt have any rehearsal I just jumped in and the audience was pumped up,and when I started The Look of Love and heard the beautiful music around me, and saw the massive crowd of people in front of me, and Chris Botti standing next to me with encouraging eyes and supportive direction,I had an OUT OF BODY experience!! And when we got to the end of The Very Thought of You, I was falling in love with my career again,heart ,mind,body and soul!! I heard my spirit and my heart opening with a feeling of rebirth and healing..
Thank you GOD for making that happen. I KNOW IT WAS YOU LORD!!!

I WAS ON A WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM HEADED UP BY THE MAYOR OF BALTIMORE,SHEILA DIXON,I STARTED OUT GOOD,GOT REALLY BUSY MAKNG THE RECORD,DIDN'T LOSE ANYMORE...SO FROM NOW ON MY WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY WILL BE QUIET AND PRIVATE..I SEE PUTTING MYSELF ON BLAST DIDNT WORK! LOL...

MY GOAL FOR THE NEXT DECADE IS TO BE HAPPY AND SAVE ALOT OF MONEY SO I CAN RETIRE AND JAZZ CAN GO TO COLLEGE.

I JUST LEFT THE DOCTOR,I HAVENT BEEN FEELING TOO GOOD AT ALL LATELY. I WENT TO THE GYM LAST NIGHT,AND FELT BETTER FOR A WHILE AND THEN GOT THIS WEIRD SENSATION ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY BODY SO I RAN TO THE DOC THIS MORNING..

SEEMS THAT MY PRESSURE IS UP A LITTLE,SO I GOTTA REALLY STEP UP MY GAME IN THE GYM.

I HAVENT MADE MY METAMORPHOSIS PHYSICALLY LIKE I WANTED TO BY THE TIME THE RECORD WAS RELEASED,BUT YOU KNOW,I DONT FEEL LIKE A FAILURE OR ANYTHING,I'M JUST GOING TO TRUST AND BELIEVE THAT I WILL GET IT RIGHT SOON.

I HAVE BEEN UNDER SO MUCH STRESS. FEELING REALLY UNHAPPY ABOUT THE END OF MY RELATIONSHIP.

ITS ESPECIALLY HARD RIGHT NOW.

ANYWAY,THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE RELEASE OF THIS RECORD,WHICH WILL BE A BIT CONTROVERSIAL ON ONE RESPECT,BUT I AM READY FOR ALL THE EMAILS AND CRITICISM!

Hey y'all..
some good news!!!!
Tuesday I got a call from trombonist/producer Jeff Bradshaw asking me if I wanted to come to Jill's show in Baltimore! Of course I went,and it was AMAZING!! The band is fantastic and Jill is excellent. she was in great voice and she talked a lot of sh*t which was very entertaining!
I didn't get a chance to meet her after the show,but Wednesday Jeff called me and said Jill wanted me to come back because she wanted to meet me!!
So my friend Angie (who sings with me and alot of other people!) went back to the show and afterward went backstage to meet her. After a few minutes she came out and she started screaming when she saw me and started bowing and stuff and I bowed to her too!! She was soooooo sweet! I am so glad to see her beautiful spirit for myself.She is radiant! I wanted to meet her for so long,that was so sweet of her to tell me the same,it made me feel really great!!

I have been going through so much in my personal life lately,this was truly A God-given,much needed boost!!

Anyway,I asked her if she would produce me on my next record and hse said she would love it!!

So I'm going to jump on that right away!!!
Wouldn't that be cool..!!!!

My "Fiance" Michael Baisden

Michael Baisden has started something!! When I got home from L.A.,there were 14 emails of people congratulating me on becoming engaged to Michael Baisden.

I am trippin'!

I had a great time taping Baisden After Dark. Michael and George Wilburn and Morris Day were alot of fun! Michael's staff and crew are EXCELLENT!! They treated me and my peeps like royalty. I swear,I was so happy!! Michael is such a trip.Such a sweet man and he really knows how to make a girl feel great! I have been reading his books for so long..(Maintenance Man is my favorite),I always fantasized if his man characters were really various parts of his personality.

I sat down and did an interview with Michael and Morris Day,and then at the end of the show I did "I Can't Help It" with the band,who were absolutely KILLER!!

We had a ball.

My manager Berenice and one of my best friends Kim,who got me my audition with Stevie Wonder 17 years ago... were with me.

I got to meet Tina Marie!! And she was performing Cassanova Brown,one of the first songs I sang at high school talent shows.

I had a good time in Detroit!

Well,no thanks to Northwest who lost my luggage until two hours before the show on Sunday. Oh my GOD I was stressed out.

I can't believe Delroy Lindo came to the show!! His wife is a beautiful lady I used to know a long tme ago when I was at Morgan State. She used to braid my hair!! I had no idea they were married!! They are so sweet!

Anyway, I'm getting ready to do the Baisden After Dark TV taping in LA on Saturday.
Tomorrow(Thursday) I'm going to New York to record with Jason Miles for his new To Grover with Love CD.
Next week ,I'm off to Indonesia to do the Jak Jazz Fest.
when I get home,I'm going to work on finishing the LIVE CD...it may be released totally digitally!

Hey Baltimore! Hometown..Y'all showed out for us tonight!

I can't believe it was over 5,000 people at Hopkins Plaza...

And you know the most eerie thing about tonight was,(and I am so mad I forgot to mention it...)

We were standing in front of the Morris Mechanic,which is the place I decided I was going to be a singer for the first time in my life when I was 6 years old!(My mon took me to see Purlie and Melba Moore floored me!)

I am overwhelmed at the love and support I got out there tonight! It was unreal!

It was so many of y'all....I could not believe it!

Thank you so much Baltimore,I am so proud.

I went to Buffalo NY yesterday to do a short 5 song set as a promotion for WBLK radio.

I was disrespectfully tricked into doing a live set as opposed to the originally proposed track date.
I was told that the listeners of the station really hated track dates and it would be better if I performed with the band that was performing before me.

I found out just before I was to arrive in Buffalo,that this "event" had SOLD OUT which means they charged people money to attend.

I of course had no knowledge of this because no one paid me a **** dime to sing a note.
This is the second time ,this month,I have been put in a bad light with the people who support my career,and I am about to do something about it.

First of all...I WILL NEVER EVER perform a concert of my own music without using my own band again. NEVER.

I was out of my element and I have recieved some complaints,some targeted incorrectly at Troy Burton this morning,and I am sick of this.

I am upset with Shanachie for not watching out for me and making sure this was only a free radion promotion as I was told. I fault WBLK for mis leading the public into thinking that they were paying 25 DOLLARS to watch me and my band perform.

I was so stressed out I sounded like shit last night. I apologize to the people who came to see me last night.

I was not at my best at all.

people are still trying to screw me in this industry,just like a few weeks ago when the promoter used my name to sell tickets to his festival and never paid me a **** dime,and then tells the audience I didn't want to sing in the heat.

I'm tired of this industry anyway,and now it seems that people are really *****n with me and I have had enough!

Whoever called Troy this morning,I hope u read this message. I DO have my shit together.

Hey Y'all..

Just did a gig with Jason Miles last night in Camden NJ..it was off the hook! THOUSANDS of people..I was told 6,000..I wish I had my band there...

It was fun working with Walter Beasley and D-Train! They were great!

I spent last Saturday in ATL,and I got the chance to meet and hang with Ann Nesby!

She is soooooo sweet and real!!

I hope I get to work with her soon.

I'm off on my first real,non-working vacation!!

See y'all Monday..can't wait for Detroit and Montgomery Alabama next week!
